Learn to make these cute and colorful glass pendants with me. I’ll show you how to use scrapbook paper and some glass ‘vase gems’ to make some really fun cabochons that you can use for so many things!
This video tutorial takes you through the steps of creating the cabochon and adding a bail, but once you learn the technique, you can make magnets, rings, or set them in a bezel just like any other stone cabochon. There are so many possibilities when it comes to decorative paper, but you could also use fabric, or your own artwork for an extra special touch!

* Keep in mind that these glass vase beads may have some bubbles in them. Try to choose one for your project that doesn’t have any, if possible! As I mention in the video, there are glass cabochons made specifically for jewelry making, for projects like scrabble tile pendants. Though they are more pricey, the benefit is that there are no air bubbles in the glass and they are uniform shapes and sizes. Oh, and there are some really fun shapes too!
The method I show you in the video is the one you would use to attach paper or fabric to those glass cabochons!
** Scrapbook paper is great for this project because the thickness prevents the moisture from the glue causing it to wrinkle and bubble, which could possibly happen with thinner paper.
The image on the left is one made with traditional scrapbook paper (as shown in the video) and the cabochon on the right was made with a scrap of fabric. I love the way the weave in the fabric is magnified by the glass!
If you’d like to try using fabric, I would recommend adding a little extra dimensional Mod Podge on the back of the fabric with a toothpick immediately after attaching it to the cabochon, to let the glue distribute evenly through the weave of the fabric. Everything else is exactly the same as in the video as demonstrated with the scrapbook paper!
